Q: Where can I find a cheap 1940s mercury 4 door convertible for sale?

A: e-bay. you can find anything there

Q: does anybody know of a 58 impala for sale cheap??????
my dream car…preferebly convertible

A: good luck! and if you find a 67′ chevlle, let me know. i will keep an eye though.

Q: Is this BMW 318ic Convertible worth 5,000$ ?
Im looking to purchase a convertible, cheap one, but that looks good and runs with no problems.

Is this car worth 5,000 dollars?

here is the description of it

“beautiful blue BMW for sale, 2nd owner for the past 7 years. must sell because purchased another car & only has 1 parking space. manual top, good condition, 135k miles.”

http://images.craigslist.org/01011001030…

———————

I’m 17 years old, senior year… i don’t want it to brake down. just let me know if i can find any thing cheaper or is this a good price.

A: personally, i wouldn’t get a convertible if you’re looking to spend a minimal amount of money fixing a car. High chance that it will start to leak, and fixing a leak in a convertible is a real pain, and you usually end up getting frustrated and buying a new top. But the M42 motor (in the 318) is pretty resilient, so if you’re willing to cope with that, then go for it. depending on the year, which you didn’t list.

Q: Does anyone know where i can find a pontiac solstice or a convertible new beetle for under $10,000?
i have a small budget of about $10,000 and need a car i was thinking of a new beetle convertible or pontiac solstice. i know, don’t laugh, a pontiac solstice is more pricey and not near $10,000 but was hoping if anyone knows of any on sale or a place to get them for cheap.
thanks so much i have been searching for a while and could use the extra help.

A: here in s.w. missouri u can buy a convertable new beetle for under $10G, but it won’t be a new new beetle. ur prolly looking at an ‘03.

try looking at e-bay or calling a few dealers in ur area and ‘put out the word’ as to what ur looking for, they have the resources, they can find u what u want.

Q: Can I fit a 572 Chevy Big Block in a 2004 mustang?
i have a 04 convertible mustang gt. everything is customized, but it has a lot of km’s. i saw a cheap 572 big block for sale and i want to know if it will fit so i can buy it.

A: Why? Why would you put a crappy motor in a good car? It’s way too much work just to fit that in there in the first place. Stick with the 4.6. That, and if the 572 is going for cheap, I would imagine it is either stolen, or it has so many issues (like all chevies… tee hee) that it isn’t worth building. The 4.6 (presumably) has more than enough snot to get the job done.

Q: Can you help me I am thinking of buying either a 1969 Datsun Fairlady Convertible or a 1960 FIAT 1100?
I love restoring old cars and I usually stick with the normal Fords,Chevy,or Dodges, but I was thinking of trying my hand on something different and would like to know a little more about them from people that have either owned one of them.here is the way the adds are listing each one.

THIS IS A 1960 FIAT 1100 SUICIDE DOORS 4 DOOR CAR —it is a neat little car–has a engine out of a DatsunN B-210 in it –it will run but need carb work—interior is in pretty nice shape-it has been redone–it has little rust but not much–$1750.00

we have a 1968 and a 1969 Datsun Fairlady convertible for sale, $2500 for both. we also have have a rear panel and new black carpet that will come with the cars.

we will not ship, both vehicles MUST be trailer-ed, CASH only

the 1968 ran when we parked it 2 years ago, it is a 4 speed, has a U20 engine with Solex Carbs., radiator has been reworked, good title

the 1969 runs, it is a 5 speed, with lots of good chrome, we do not have the title

between the two cars you should be able to make one good car, or both can be rebuilt for 2 complete cars, but we discovered that it was cheaper to buy the 2nd car for parts than to buy parts separately

these cars are fun to drive
thanks for your input.

A: I would personally go with the 1969 Datsun Fairlady since my dad rebuilt one and it ran great when he finished it and he let me drive it when i got my licence so i had fun driving it around and a lot of people who saw it liked it

Q: Does any1 know where (online of course) I can buy BMW piston caps for sale?
I have a 1991 325i convertible, & I’m only needing the “top portion” of the pistons (6) – which personally, I refer to as the “piston cap”. I don’t need connecting rods, or anything else other than the rings which I can purchase @ will later. I’m not rebuilding the engine, I’m only replacing the caps – surely this should be MUCH cheaper than the whole set. Thanks community!!

A: The piston is a 1 piece part. There is no piston cap. You have to tear down the engine to replace a piston.

Q: Corvette c6 or Porsche Boxster?
there is a black 2006 c6 convertible for sale for $57000 that i am interested in, this C6 has every option a zo6 comes with, all the options together cost almost $11000, its an 06 model but it has 0 miles on it,for the second car im interested in is the 07 Boxter, which brand new cost around $52000 with tax with hardly any options, i personally am thinking about getting the C6 but the interior is very cheap, but since the Boxter is German its in a totally different class, which car is a better buy?

A: The C6 is a guy car, the boxster is a chick car.

Q: 07 Porsche Boxster or 06 Chevy C6?
there is a black 2006 c6 convertible for sale for $57000 that i am interested in, this C6 has every option a zo6 comes with, all the options together cost almost $11000, its an 06 model but it has 0 miles on it,for the second car im interested in is the 07 Boxter, which brand new cost around $52000 with tax with hardly any options, i personally am thinking about getting the C6 but the interior is very cheap, but since the Boxter is German its in a totally different class, which car is a better buy?

A: Chevy C6

I have a coupe. Love it. Would take it over the Boxster or Cayman. Good luck with your choice and go with the one you want.

Q: Is this used car sale deal worth it for me?
Ok so I went car shopping found a used 06 Audi a4 convertible for 26,000. I have an 07 Nissan Titan that I owe 28,000 for and I’m up side down in my loan for about 8-9k. The dealer was willing to pay off what I owe on the car plus still negociate on the used car if I put 5,000 down. I have around 2500 cash and the rest would have to be put on a card. I’m not sure if this is worth it to me or should I look for a cheaper car? The problem is, is that if I trade in my truck we’d have to buy something for my husband to drive and if we both bought cars from the same lot they were willing to do a deal. However since all our money would be going towards my down payment he would be putting nothing down on a car he found for 20,000. So my proposal I want to make to the salesmen is if we buy the 2 cars we want both for 40,000 out the door with 5,000 down and to pay off my truck out right. If he goes for this witch I have no doubt he wouldn’t because he was showing us cars for around 30k and said he sell them to us for 25k witch is what we said our price range is. Does this seem like a deal that is to my benefit? I’m not worried about securing a loan I have good credit so that’s not a problem. Should I be looking for cheaper cars? Any advice would be helpful. Were pretty set on getting 2 cars and from the same lot so the dealer will take the loss on our truck. Witch isn’t a problem because we both want Audis. I no by securing this deal I’ll be 2500 in debt when I leave the lot but isn’t that better then a truck that’s 9-10k that were upside down on?
Well, I see everyone thinks this is a bad idea but can someone please explain why.

A: I think that you should wait and do a little more research as to what is out there and what options that you have as far as getting rid of the Titan. I know what it is like when you get into a car and it feels so good to drive it and you want it, but remember that the feeling is fleeting. If your titan is running fine and there is nothing else that is making you really want to rid yourself of the vehicle, then I would suggest wait. On the flip side, if you know that you have enough money to get the vehicles, make your car notes with no problem, and still be comfortable, then there is nothing wrong with some debt if you are happy. You only live once after all. Good luck and go with your gut on this one.

Q: 2000 Saab 9-3 Convertible: Hydraulic Hose Soft Top Problem?
Hi,
I am in desperate need of advice and will appreciate any information that you can provide.
On June 6th, I purchased a 200 Saab 9-3 Convertible. The top seemed to operate slowly. The sales person said that “it just took a minute.” After driving the care for a few days, the top operated more smoothly. I thought that perhaps the car had been sitting on the lot and the battery had lost its charge. About a month later, the top failed to go down in mid-operation.

One of the hydraulic hoses that attach to the driver side cylinder blew off of the fitting. I ordered the hose from the dealer and was told that these hoses almost never need to be replaced. My general mechanic replaced the hose and as soon as we put the top down, a hose connecting to the cylinder on the passenger’s side blew off of the fitting.

I decided to take the care to a Saab mechanic to find out the cause of the hoses blowing off. It turns out that ALL of the hoses have lost the black plastic coating. The mechanic believes that I will continue to blow hoses and suggested replacing all of them. He has posted online threads to other mechanics but has yet to find anyone who has had this problem.

I took the hose to a hydraulic hose company. The owner said that the black plastic coating is an integral part of the crimping and since it is crumbling off, the fitting is not tight enough to withstand the pressure. He said that it should not be coming off and that it was poor workmanship from the manufacturer. He concurs with the fact that I will continue to blow off the hoses. He suggested just replacing the 2 hoses on each cylinder, since they provide the power to lift the top.

In addition, I have called a few other places to see if they have seen this problem. One mechanic said that the Saab mechanic doesn’t know what he was doing and that couldn’t possibly be the problem, since those hoses rarely fail. Both mechanics have worked on Saab’s for over 20 years. I feel like I am stuck between a battle of the experts. I know that I am running out of money and I certainly can’t afford to replace all of the hoses.

Have you ever seen this type of problem? Do you know where I can get the hoses cheaper? Ideally, I would like to find an overseas source, as the US sites are still very expensive. Do you have any advice? I can also send pictures of the hose if that helps, just e-mail me.

Thanks,
Misty

A: Hi Misty,

It matters not whether hose failure is a common occurrence with your year/make/model. It is a fact that yours are failing and you have the salesman as a witness that the top worked poorly when you bought it. If the top worked slowly, you had a problem right there and then that should have been addressed by the dealer. They should now repair the problem under your warranty, no matter what it takes. Generaly once a problem is known to the dealer, you should be covered even if the warranty runs out.
Convertible power systems are very sensitive to the type of fluid used. Sopme use transmission fluid (Red) and some use brake fluid (Clear). In either case you should be able to see throught it. I don’t think any systems used brake fluid since the mid 50’s. If your system leaked and someone topped it off with brake fluid, it may be attacking your hoses. This could have been done by the previous owner or the dealer where you bought it.
If you have a mixture of the two, the fluid will appear either pink or maybe even frothy to the point that it is no longer translucent. Compare it to 100% transmission fluid.
I believe that you have three options. Have the hoses replaced by the dealership or by a hydraulic hose company. The other part of the options is to do them all now or as they blow.

IMHO, of course.

Q: Is this just stupid? or could there be more to it?
ok so I have been ttc for about 6 months now. Im might be pregnant, Im gonna take a pregnancy test in a few days but anyway yesterday I found this really nice car, it was a convertible camaro and it was for a very cheap price It needed some fixing up, it had a blown head gasket, I guess that was kinda a big issue. I was really exited about it. The guy just put it up for sale and I told my self that If i get this car maybe it is a sign that im not pregnant after all (I don’t know why I said that) and then I said If for some strange reason I don’t get the car maybe its a sign that I am pregnant cuz I should get something that I don’t have to put all that work into and is a more family car. Well I called the guy up and guess what he just sold it!!! I know its so stupid to think that’s a sign but could it be? and then I suck at basketball but I was just shooting around yesterday with my brother and I said If I get this shot in Im pregnant. And I actually made it I just want a baby so bad, Im I going nuts lol

A: its not stupid..you just want to be pregnant so your trying to give yourself some hope. and there is still hope..and i believe the car thing may be a sign..so i hope you get your baby. TONS of babydust to you. =]

thanks sarah, I didnt even know that there were any seatbelts back there

A: ur not crazy ur just looking for a sign besides the obvious test..unfortunately in real life i doubt this is really a sign..but if your pregnant you could take it as a sign…

goodluck with everything…

by the way..my boyfriend had to sell his baby…..86 tune port injected camaro…because there are no seatbelts in the back seat..not to mention no room for a car seat..if you are looking to concieve…keep ur baby in the back of your mind when ur car shopping

Q: Husband’s priorities. Wants to upgrade car despite bad economy.?
We have a 7 month old baby. We own a house with thank goodness some equity but probably $50K less equity than before. In any case not enough for downpayment on new house.

Our plan was to sell house, bank equity, rent cheap place for two years to get downpayment again to buy another place (first house not really baby friendly either so another factor in decision to sell house).

We do not have a 3 month emergency fund (paid of debts and time off with new baby).

I have six figure salary and two cars. A 2005 $30K Honda convertible sports car — two seater. And a boring but functional Mazda 626 sedan. Both cars are paid in full.

We use the two-seater to commute and the sedan to transport us + baby when we are all together.

He suddenly has the itch for new car and wants to upgrade to 2009 two-seat sports car that is in the $30-40K range. He wants me to sell my convertible to do that which means taking on new auto loan for about $15K and my eating the depreciation on my car after only 3-years.

I think this is a ridiculous idea at this time and we should deal with home sale and repurchase before considering new car. Plus with a child if we do buy new car even if sporty I think we should get a car that we can all three fit into…..

I loved my little two-seater convertible, but our home and baby should I think take priorty for a couple years.

(We are mid-30’s and he does not own a car but uses mine — I treat him as though they are our cars even if I owned before we married). And he makes 1/3 of my income, so I am the one who really has to stress about any fixed monthly debts being increased…..
I should add, I had this discussion with him telling him, that with the risk of layoffs, and our not having fall back savings we should not buy a new car. He debated with me (cheap right now — he can get a deal) and is pretty much pouting now….

A: Your instincts are 100% right. If he only makes $30,000 a year, HE cannot afford a $40,000 car. Period. If he was a good father, he should understand that his absolute first priority has to be the financial safety of his family. That means that an emergency fund gets created first. Then you make sure you have enough life and disability insurance so that if either of you gets hurt, sick or dies, there is enough money coming in to pay the bills. Then you look at housing costs. All this means that the cars you already have get driven longer and maintained well.

Option 2 is he takes a second job and uses the income from that job to pay for the sports car.

Q: used cars???????????????
ok. so i am starting to look for cars to buy. i want a used car. preferably a bmw or a mini cooper. a convertible would be ideal. but isnt needed. i like white or black cars, but any color is ok.

does anyone know of good websites or cars that are for sale?

also i dont want to spend a whole bunch of money. the cheaper the better. and no older then 2000. i know its alot to ask. but some of the stuff is possible.

A: http://urlhawk.com/csf
- here’s a good website to look for real good, affordable and quality vehicles from official government auctions!

I bought my Honda Accord for just $2250 with a milage of 5,270!
And it’s been already a year I’m riding my car and it’s still doing well! I’ve recommended it to my friends and all of them are enjoying their used cars and have no problem with it!

A: At these prices your best deal is decided by the mechanic you take to see the cars. I hate to see people do this, spend little money on a car only to spend much more in the long run. Invest in a mechanic to come with you, it can save you thousands.

Q: Accounting/Bond Problem?
I am looking at a 10K for a company and need to figure out the market rate or the rate of the bonds. I want to know if the bonds are at a discount or premium? Where would I find this information? This is the excerpt from the 10K.

In October 2009, we also completed the sale of $570 million aggregate principal amount of our Convertible Notes, including over-allotment options. Interest is payable on April 15 and October 15 of each year beginning on April 15, 2010 until the maturity date of October 15, 2014. The Company received net proceeds of approximately $553 million, net of $17 million of underwriter fees. The debt issue costs are recorded in Other noncurrent assets and are being amortized to Interest expense over the life of the Convertible Notes. The Convertible Notes are senior subordinated unsecured obligations of the Company.

The company I am looking at is called Navistar International Corporation if you are interested! Please help me?!

A: You might be able to find the rate in the footnotes to the financial statements. Your better bet would be find them on the financial market. The coupon rate and the terms of conversion should be provided.

Q: I am looking at buying a 1991 used car they do not have the pink?
I am very scared to do this transaction, and need help… I do not want to be taken advantage of. The car is being sold off Craigslist, it reads
clean title, convertible, everything legit with DMV,Taggs good till 10/10 ……………….—5spd …………….—4 cylin 114+ miles
will text pics upon request

He sent the pics with nice rims, when I got there there were shit rims on it, he sold them and told me the pics he sent me were old. also it needs alot cosmetic repairs its a Miata 1991 including a new top anyways, I dont mind it because its only $1300 and we tried talk him down to $1100 but then he gave me this story about not having the pink slip and that it will take 3 weeks to reorder another one because the other one he ordered never came in and if we just did a bill of sale he would do it for $1100. He mentioned that this is what he needed to get rid of cause he was in trouble then he said later he does for a living and will be getting another car soon, so he resells used cars out from his home. He had his brother and a sister there. This was a very poor side of town and they looked very poor, he said he could not drive car to me to show me because he had no license and he did not speak great English.

I am interested in the car but I dont want to get screwed. What steps do I need to do to verify valitity the purchase. He mentioned a bill of sale and that he could put I paid much less than what I actually paid.

My gut says no but I dont want to miss out on a good opportunity, it drives well and gets 40mpg
and we need transporation badly. The tags on it say 10/2010
It needs a new top, a new key hole for access to the back trunk but he rigged it with a wire so it will pop open, it needs a dash board piece, and a rack on truck where there is just rust holes remaining. Just cosmetic details, oh I forgot to mention, I googled mapped his address and as of Oct 2009 the miata was parked out at the front of this house, which was a good sign.

A: if u ever do this deal make sure u pay with a check or something like that but never cash.
just take the vin # and take it up to the police station they should be able to tell u if the car have been reported as stolen….by the way how are you going to make the transfer without tittle???
how are you gonna insured the car with out been the actual owner?
tell him that u want the car but you are going to wait until he gets the tittle

hopefully this help

Q: Do any of the 2010 mustang convertibles come in a hardtop convertible?
I was going to buy a mustang and was wondering if they make a hardtop convertible.
Thanks!

A: No however I think they might have glass tops like the 2009. The 20-10’s are NiiiiiiCeeee!!!! If I could I’d get one but I’m savin up for the 50th anniversary. I have a 2004 40th anniversary mustang. I’m buyin brand new special ordering that pony! Yaaaaa!!! =)

Q: How much is a turbo charger for a corvette convertible 2010?
Hey guys im turning 18 and am curious how much would it cost to put a turbo charger on my corvette to add about 400 hp-600hp and a body kit. Thanks in advance
Thanks guys btw my dad isnt getting me this car its all me. Im gonna get a job that pays over 100k in computers so please dont say im leaching off my parents.

A: You would be better off super charging a Corvette vs turbo charging.

You can put a Procharger on for about $7,000 installed. Go to West Coast Corvettes and check out the options. Magnusson’s are a little more expensive, and will require an after market hood as well. This may not be an issue if you are going with a body kit.

Check out East Coast Superchargers – they do great work. However, unless you don’t care about the warranty on the car, supercharging or turbocharging WILL void the warranty.

You may also want to consider upgrading the brake system to the ZO6 brakes (or comparable aftermarket). That much more horsepower will require better stopping power.

All this being said, I would not do any of the above. Go with a cold air induction unit, long tube headers, hi flow cats and a good exhaust system (recommend Corsa). Better than that, just buy a ZO6 or a ZR1.

Something to consider…A stock C6 Corvette with 436hp will smoke 95% of the cars on the road. The car only weighs 3100lbs. Doing the above will give you about 35-40 more hp which will take care of another 2-3%.

Q: What’s your review on the 2010 mustang convertible?
hi
i’m considering getting a 2010 mustang convertible, and i was wondering if anyone owns one and could tell me what they think of it
i’d really appreciate it, thanks

A: In my honest opinion I think the 2010 mustang is the worst looking mustang yet. Way too much plastic around the bumpers. Just not for me.

Q: how much is insurance on a 2010 Mustang Convertible For a 16 Year Old?
I Am Turning 16 In Less Than Six Months And Will Be Getting A Car In January Of 2011.
I Really Want This Type Of Car And My Mom Told Me To Research The Insurance. And I Cannot Find Anything. So Please Help. Thanks.

A: There are several ways that you can consider.Call your local agent or do the online quote yourself.Take which way,it depends on your time and knowledge.

Q: Can a girl pull off a White 2010 Ford Mustang Convertible?
Do you think a 16 year old girl driving one of these looks more sexy or disgustingly manly?

A: As a guy, I would much rather see a pretty girl in a Mustang convertible than in a VW Beetle convertible.

Mustangs are definitely “guy” cars, so every guy is going to check out a hot girl who is driving one.

Q: What are all the customizations I can do to a 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible?
I don’t know that much about cars
but I’m thinking of customizing my future car after I get it.

what are all the possibilities that I can customize on a 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible
If there is a website that lists all of it, that would be GREATLY appreciated. =]

A: I would wait until you actually have the keys in your hand. I would also go with the hardtop as the vert is a couple hundred pounds heavier and the GT500 is rather portly to begin with. I wouldn’t change the any exterior features. I would swap out the stock supercharger for an uprated Kenne Bell unit. I would also invest in some wider wheels/tires, as the stock sized tires don’t provide near enough traction off the line.

Who cars about what the car looks like, The GT500 already has good looks. Under the hood is what matters. I have to chuckle at the people who will spend thousands of dollars on body kits and custom paint. Only to have a bone stock motor under the hood.

Q: Will Audi develop a hardtop convertible by the middle of 2010?
I’m planning to buy a hardtop convertible- I want it from Audi- and so I want to look to see if they will have one or not. Any price will do!

A: In short, No. Audi believes that a soft-top convertible is more posh and I agree. Audi hasn’t released any information about a future hardtop convertible but that doesn’t mean it isn’t in the mix. The newest Audi convertible will be the A5/S5 convertible. This will be a 2010 model. In my opinion, I like soft tops best because you are most likely going to have the top down most of the time and then you will have more trunk space when the top is stowed.

Q: Is it only an IRA thats convertible to a Roth IRA in 2010? Can one put 200K from a savings acct to a Roth IRA?
This is regarding the one time conversion that’s allowed in 2010.

A: You cannot convert a savings account into a Roth IRA. However, starting in 2010 there will be no income limits for conversions to a Roth IRA. The limit now is $100,000 AGI.

You can convert a traditional IRA to a Roth IRA, and you can also convert a 401k or 403b to a Roth IRA and take advantage of the provision, for 2010 only, that the conversion is treated as spread over two years.

Q: Which 2010 muscle cars come in convertible?
I know Mustang does, but what about Camaro and Challenger?

A: bam bam is grumpy – is pebbles not taking care of you?

Neither the Camaro nor Challenger are offered in convertible body styles. Both have been talked about, but were put on the back burner indefinitely when the companies filed for bankruptcy.

The Mustang is the only pony car offered as a convertible.

Q: What is the dealer invoive price of the 2010 Lexus IS 250 and 350 convertible? How cheap and release date?
Interested because I want to buy one

A: http://www.lexus.com/models/ISC/features/pricing.html
At first they will charge more than invoice because the car is in high demand. The car is already out in some areas. The Lexus dealership I work for has already started to take orders, but we do not have any in stock yet.

Q: 2010 Mustang coupe or convertible?
I’m getting my first car soon, and it is going to be a 2010 mustang. I can’t decide between the V6 convertible and the GT coupe. Any suggestions?

A: if you have a pair, it shouldnt be the body style in question here.. get the GT or you will be sorry later on when youre cruisin with a honey and decide to show off at a light and get your a$$ stomped by a teenager in their parents minivan..

Q: 2010 Chevy Camaro Coupe or 2010 Ford Mustang Convertible?
Which should I get?

2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT (V6) Coupe

or

2010 Ford Mustang V6 Premium Convertible

A: Right now I’d probably go for the Camaro, and it pains me to say that since I’m a Mustang fanatic. I have owned two Mustangs. But true to tradition, Ford has left the Mustang hopelessly behind the Camaro in horsepower.
Rumor is they will fix this in 2011, but for now, 210 hp in the Mustang vs 300 in the Camaro, I’d go for the Camaro V6 over the Mustang V6.

Q: 2010 Mustang GT convertible for $32,000?
some guy is selling his 2010 mustang GT convertible for $32,000, that he won at a casino.

is this a good deal?

A: No way , that is a crap deal. In this market, cars are selling as cheap as ever. Also the interest rates for a car loan are practically 0. 32k for a GT stang, no way.

Q: 2010 mustang GT convertible for $32,000 with 500km ON IT!!!?
2010 Mustang GT Convertible for $32,000. 500 KM on it.?
Someone is selling a 2010 Mustang GT convertible with only 500 KM on it for $35,000. but i offered on it, and he lowered it to $32,000.

in the ford.ca website it says mustang gt convertible is $42,000. one other guy is selling his mustang gt convert. for $38,000.

should i go ahead and buy this mustang what do you think?

A: how does it have so many kms

Q: 2010 Mustang GT Convertible for $32,000. 500 KM on it.?
Someone is selling a 2010 Mustang GT convertible with only 500 KM on it for $35,000. but i offered on it, and he lowered it to $32,000.

A: I would skip it and just get a new 2011 GT vert. The people who bought the 2010’s aren’t a happy bunch right now.

A: In my honest opinion I think the 2010 mustang is the worst looking mustang yet. Way too much plastic around the bumpers. Just not for me.

Lookin for Used Convertible for sale? Find more auto classifieds and Used Cars for sale at Used-Cars.Corral.net

Q: I am 16 and just saw a 1998 mustang convertible for sale on the side of the road and was wondering…?
The car had 98,000 miles on it and I know that’s not too great plus it was 4,900 $ I wouldn’t buy that car just because of how many miles it has on it. I really like this kind of car and would like to know how many miles I should be looking for on a used car like this. Prices would also be helpful (for the car and insurance)
Thanks!
PS. please don’t give me answers referring to “new cars” if I were to get any car it could be used

A: That is actually low mileage for an eleven year old car. To get an
accurate price, check the Kelley Blue Book. It will tell price ranges for various different conditions of the car(fair, good, etc.). Average miles varies from about 12,000 to 15,000 per year. Insurance for a 16 year old person will be relatively high, especially with a car like a Mustang.

Q: Where can I get a convertible top and passenger window for a 91 Chrysler Labaron two door?
We bought a used car at a garage sale. Runs great but have had difficulty finding miscellanous parts because Chrysler stopped making replacement parts. We also need a main curcuit board for lighting, signals, etc. We have them direct wired with toggles switches.
We’ve been to junk yards and I’ve even searched on ebay for the top, but I guess this was a special model and what is suppose to work, doesn’t.

A: http://www.convertibletopguys.com/cgi-local/displaycat.cgi?cat=320
try salvage yard for other items

Q: is there any liability risk of buying a car with salvage title if I own a house?
Recently went to car dealer and was looking at used Saab 9-3 convertible. His car for sale was a 99 with with 80k mi for 8k. Almost exact same car being offered privately but with salvage title(due to theft so he says) for 6k. (blue book fwiw says $8500) Dealer was telling me to stay away from salvage cars, especially if I am a homeowner. What does this mean, or was he just feeding me lines?

A: i own a car lot and i sometimes buy cars from the auction with a salvage title. i resell them at good prices and i also let the customers know but as long as you keep the car for yourself and not resell it then your in good condition. your house doesnt have anything to do with it.

Q: Should I buy a used 2003 Saab?
I found saab 9-3 convertible for sale by my house and I love it, but when i told my mechanic friend he said saabs were shit and I should never get one. Opinions?
This is the 1999-2003 model before the redisign in2004

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: Is the Mazda Miata a girl car?
i have been shopping for a used car and i was just wondering what others thought on whether or not the Mazda Miata is a girl car..?
I kind of toss the idea around whenever i see one for sale but then i think what if the engine was “beefed up” would it still be a girl car just for the sheer fact that its a convertible?..
i personally don’t see alot of girls driving miatas that are powerful enough to put other much more expensive sports cars to shame..

A: Take a look for yourself at my link. The Miata community is huge and awesome. And we love to crack gay jokes. But the fact remains, these cars are way too much fun for just girls to use. they do look hot in a Miata though.

and yes, when turbocharged, they will spank virtually anything else in its price range short of super bikes. Do the math.

250hp
2,300 lbs
all for about $5,000.

Can’t beat it. later Corvette!

Q: Is it possible to buy a used $10k car on credit and sell it back after 2 months? How much would this cost?
I’m a young professional with a steady income. I want to own a convertible, but only for the summer. I’ve never bought or sold a car. Is it hard to sell a car online if you know nothing about cars? I understand there will be some expenses involved with this, I’ve gotten an insurance quote ($273/month) so I know how much that will be, and I looked up vehicle registration & plates ($90+$10). Also, I would be borrowing about 8 or 9k over three or four credit cards (I have good credit). I would be using the money from the sale of the car, plus any new money to make sure it all gets paid back as soon as I’m done. Is this risky? What should I look out for? Also just for reference, the car is about $10,000, and I can raise about $500/month towards this for any unexpected expenses.

A: Sorry guy, but you must be CRAZY!! Tell you what, why not simply pay me the $3-4K that you`re gonna lose and you can loan my HERBIE for the summer?

Q: Used Car Pricing – KBB, NADA, Edmunds?
I am trying to sell my 98 Mits. Eclipse Spyder GS-T convertible that only has 66,000 miles. The car looks amazingly good. KBB Values range from 7900-9400 for private party sale. NADA “clean – good” value is ~8200. And Edmunds lowballs at 6800. Quite a huge range!! I have only been posting on craigslist and using a black/white “for sale” sign. But I have seriously gotten almost 0 interest in 3 weeks. I have a guy who is offering 7350, does this seem fair? Or should I wait longer / advertise in autotrader etc.?
The KBB retail is 11,200 and I live in Bay Area Cali

A: Kelly is the book dealers use; the price is inflated and they get to show a buyer a higher price in anticipation of giving a little.

NADA is what most banks use to decide how much money they’ll give you in a loan for a particular car…As banks don’t want to take too much risk, the value will be lower.

Edmund’s SEEMS to be based on what the car is going for at any given time…It seems to trend more for demand of any given vehicle at any given time.

“Fair” in a sale is dependent on the person offering and the person accepting. If they’re both happy, then the deal is fair; if one feels they were cheated then they didn’t negotiate very well. Given that you have received little/no interest in the car, and his offer is higher than Edmund’s, perhaps you should seriously consider the offer.

A: If it is as you say “1942 (WWII Commerical Vehicle)” then it may be very valuable to collectors of military vehicles.

Search ebay for something similar and see what they are selling for. Advertise it on ebay and you may get some very high bids.

Q: Is this deal for real?
I have found an 06 Beetle convertible for sale for £3000, and have been told that the seller only wants this as he now lives in Hungry and left hand Vehicles will not sell, so wants a quick sale here in the uk. He is using a 3rd party to do all the work and the money willbe transfered once we have confirmed if we want the car. I have completed a car check and all is ok, i just don’t know whether its too good to be true!! Any advice that may help would be appreciated

A: “Is this deal for real?”

Sure it is….. and so are the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny!

It’s 100% SCAM!!!!!!!

Offers to ship cars are a SCAM. Once you wire that money via Western Union, you will never see your money or the car. Don’t be stupid.

Q: Another car seat question… best choice convertible?
So I’m torn about this…. I know (or at least last time I reserched this) that the Sunshine Kids Radian xtsl is the best convertible seat on the market with a rear facing weight limit of 45 lbs and a forward facing limit of 80 lbs, but this seat is $300.00!

The Graco MyRide 65 rear faces to 40 lbs and forward faces to 65 lbs., and it is currently on sale at my local target for $109.99!! Regular price $149.99.

Are the higher weight limits with the Radian worth paying double the price?

And… will we really get use out of the carseat, meaning will we really use it until 80lbs, or is it more likely that by the time my son is 65lbs., he won’t need a carseat anymore? (He’s been in the 50% for height and weight since birth… he’s now 6 months old)

I naturally want the best for my son especially when it comes to a safety issue like this, but money is tight…. If I really will use the radian until 80lbs., then I’ll get it, though. Any opinions?
The height limits were a question I had… the height limit of the radian is 53 inches. Does anybody know the height limit of the myride??? I can’t find it.
Thanks for all the input ladies! We ended up going with the Radian for the following reasons:

I worked some coupon code magic and ended up getting it for $215!!!!

It’s steel alloy frame – there just isn’t another carseat out there that comes close

Radian is one of the only (the only) I believe who publishes their crash testing results, and they are impressive… Graco does not.

The 80lb weight limit may be unrealistic, but it does have a taller shell (almost 2 inches taller than the myride), so we will be able to use it longer than the myride and definitely until all my son needs is a simple booster.

It allows for tethering rear facing (britax is the only other seat that does this, but britax does not have the weight limits to allow for extended rear facing like the myride or the radian)

The Radian offers much more leg room and is easier for kids to climb into since it sits very low on the seat.

A: The Radian is a great seat because it is the slimmest, you can fit three across in a standard car. It is, however, very long when rear facing – it did not fit in our Vibe. Really, the best car seat is the one that will fit and install in your car correctly.

In our state a kid needs to be in a carseat or booster until 80 lbs. It has been proven that boosters that use the car seat belt are not nearly as safe as the five point harness seats – that is why the Radian is worth the money for the extra poundage it carries. But, like I said we couldn’t get it in our car so we went with a Britax that goes to 65 lbs.

Lookin for Used Convertible? Find more auto classifieds and Used Cars for sale at Used-Cars.Corral.net

Q: Opinions on buying a used convertible carseat?
I know you should buy new…so I don’t need a lecture on that. We are planning on getting a new one in July or August. We are very tight on our budget just this month and our 5 month old little man just grew over the height limit of his carseat. I found people selling used convertible carseats on Craiglist for a decent price that I can afford right now…do you think it’s too risky to buy used? Serious opinions only please.

A: Yes I think it is to risky. I wouldn’t do it. The money is tight for everyone you don’t know if they could be selling a bad car seat for money. People are sick.

Go to target they have cheap ones there. If you still can’t afford it and you need it now call family or friends to loan you the money until you can afford it. They will understand this is a priorty and for the safety of your child!

My son is going to need a convertible car seat soon. Blah. I wish I put that on my baby shower list. Lol.

Good luck!

Q: What is a good used convertible car for a 16 year old girl?
I’ve wanted a convertible for a while now. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good quality used convertibles

I want a sophisticated looking car, with a curvy look to it, I’m not big into the angled look.

A preferable price would be less than 5K cause I have quite a budget on my minimum wage job

Thanks!

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.imess.net

Q: Whats an affordable used convertible car with four seats?
I notice the porsche boxster, honda s2000, and mazda miata are all nice and affordable if there used, but whats one with at least for seats?

A: the volkswagen eos.

Q: about how much would a used convertible cost?
just wondering cuz i know nothing about cars. and i want 2 buy a convertible. probably jaguar or chrysler or bmw. but it doesnt realy matter. it just has 2 be in good condition. could i get one 4 about $20,000 or wud it be more?

A: autotrader.com, yes you could.

Q: Whats the best Used convertible on the market?
Getting one for my wife for xmas, we have 3 small kids ,and would like some feed back on why you like your convertible..

A: honda s2000 and nissan 350z.

Q: Want a used convertible. What should I get?
The car I really want isn’t available yet, so I thought I’d get a nice used convertible for the summer, and then sell it later on. It’s just for kicks, so cheap is good, although not so cheap that it’s going to break down often. Any ideas?

A: 3 series bmw convertibles are kickass…..

Q: where can i buy a cheap used convertible?
I’m looking for my first car and i really want a convertible (obviously because of my price range it’s going to be an older car)
i’m lloking for one in the $2,000-$4,000 price range
…i’ve looked on ajc (atlanta journal constitution), carmax, and yahoo but can’t find anything

(honestly it doesnt have to be a convertible and i want to but it from a used car dealer ship, not a seller)

Thanks

A: The problem is not what you are looking for, but what you are willing to pay and too whom.
To whom is the largest obstacle. There just are not a lot of reputable car used car dealers that bother with cars in this price range.
So if you can not go up to the 7000 dollar range, you will most likely have to settle for a private seller.

Q: Is insurance really high for a 21 year old female with a used 2007 convertible?
I want a convertible but my brother says the insurance will be to high. I plan going to the military but I would like car once I get station or let him drive it until I get stationed. Are military discounts on insurance really good?Any advice will be helpful thank you.
What if I add my 25 year old brother to my insurance could that lower it.

A: I am in the military, you should wait till you graduate basic and ait to get a car and then there is a place called USAA that has special rates for military personell, i am only paying like 20 dollars a month on a 2000 jeep and i am only 22

Q: Has anyone skipped the infant car seat and just used a convertible?
I’m debating whether or not to do this, I’m trying to save money and am debating if I should just buy a convertible car seat because it will last a lot longer than an infant. Has anyone done this? is it a pain or inconvenience?

A: i know many moms who have gone straight to the convertible seat and its fine. if you go that route, make sure it can handle newborns, some are to big for tiny babies. i know the true fit goes from 5lbs to 35lbs RF, which is awesome. ive used the seat for my almost 3 year old, and for a friends 3 weeks old (8lbs) and both have fit wonderfully

the only “issue” would be the inconvenience factor. my son was in the infant carrier till 4 months, when i was able to transfer him (while sleeping) from the car seat to his crib without him waking up the first few months, sleep was precious! and it was nice to be able to lift the sleeping baby from the car still in his seat and run into the grocery store for milk. without the carrier, i’d have either had to wait till he was awake or till i could get a sitter, or wake him up and carry him through the store either in my arms or a sling type carrier.

some moms prefer to carry their child anyway (in their arms, sling, wrap, baby bjorn or whatever) – if thats the case, you’ll be fine. kids do not NEED the infant carrier, its more a convenience thing for the parents. they would be perfectly safe in a convertible seat.

Q: Tips on buying a 2005+ used Mustang Convertible V6 or V8?
I am looking to buy my dream car – a Mustang Convertible. I’m no car expert and have been used to driving standard family cars. Will it be dangerous for me to get a V8 GT version? What do I need to watch out for when buying a 2005 to 2008 used Mustand?

A: No, it’s not more dangerous, as long as you watch it on wet roads. The GT has a lot of power and torque, with not much weight over the drive wheels, and it’s easier to break loose and lose traction on a wet road. On icy roads, you have to be really careful.

Q: Buying a used convertible?
I’m looking to get a convertible as a first car, seeing as how they can be so expensive, I’m planning on getting a used one.

How many miles is too much?
How old of a make is too old?
Do Mustangs not age well?

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: How much for a Mustange Convertible cost in Canada if used?
I am originally from Canada but been living in the USA now for 8 years. I am originally from Kamloops, BC above Vancouver. I want to know how much a Mustange Convertible 2006-2007 model would cost , if it was used? Oh and leave me the link. THANKS!

A: LOKK AT KBB.COM

Q: Most bang for the buck used convertible under 30K?
I’m looking for a ‘vert that seats at least 4and I welcome all opinions and experiences.

A: Not too many choices are available. I recommend a used bmw or audi convertible. they all seat 4, 5 if you really push it, and quality is the typical german interior. handling and comfort are their strong suits.
mustang gt conv is a good one. backseats kinda tight, but seats 4 if rear occupants are small, like girls for instance. power is way stronger than either cars above, but quality is well below.
another one is mitsubishi eclipse (the new model), but since I dunno much about those I cant say anything about them.
Stay away from sebrings. reliability is so bad you’d better live near a chrysler service dept. if you want one. No camry solara either, the top is very flimsy and ill fitting.
The only thing I gotta remind you is they all dont have good rep for reliability, so be prepared to see a rather high bill on maintenance.
Hope it helps

Q: What’s a good used convertible for a budget of $10,000?
Preferably with good mileage too

A: Older camaro or mustang!!!

Q: Where can I find a used mustang convertible for 5 grand or less?
possible?

A: 1998 Mustang V6

California or Florida

Q: Used CLK 63 AMG cabriolet, 2010 E coupe or convertible?
Which one should I trade in my CLK 550 coupe in for that I bought brand new in 07′ it has 7k miles and lighted door sills.

A: i like the E because that rag top sucks.

Q: How much will a used SlugBug Convertible cost me in the state of Ohio?
I turn 16 in January 2011 and I want the car by August 2011 so in about a year and a couple months from now! How much with the car cost me to pay all up front or how much will it cost me monthly if that sounds better! How much will insurance be per month? How about Gas? All answers are appreciated and Im willing to buy 2003 to 2010 but the price range for the actual car has to be no more then 5 to 6k ? I also want to know if you think Im going to have to get a loan. . . thanks everyone!

A: $18,690 – $27,390

monthly payments depend on the amount of your down payment

but these cars are cute but not mechanically sound, very unreliable and expensive to fix

insurance depends on your parents coverage and other variables

Q: Mustang price in 2010?
How much do you think a used 2006 or 2007 Mustang GT Convertible will cost in 2010?

Thanks!

A: well beinga used car and an “older” model they will probably be around 24 or low 20’s

Q: Help needed in Buying Used BMW M3?
Hello All, I am planning on buying a used BMW M3 and I have a couple deals right now and would like to ask you people which one is better and what are the pros and cons.
1. 2005 M3, SMG, coupe, 20K miles – $38000
2. 2003 M3, Manual, Hardtop convertible, 55k miles – $28000
3. 2004 M3, Manual, coupe, 24K miles – $35000
I always wanted to buy a hardtop convertible but then the miles scare me on that car. How much would an extended maintenence warranty cost me for upto 100K?
And also the third car owner states she has maintenence warranty untill Nov 2008 & full service warranty untill 2010. What is this service warranty???

Someone please help me here.. Also note.. I live in a place where it snows for 4 mons in an yr & I have a luxury sedan to drive in that period. and this will be my second car for fun.

And also what are the main things I need to be looking / checking for before buying such a costly sports car. how abt the tires ??? please help.& also my budget is around 35K

A: I have an 02 with 63K on it. Still feels, looks, and drives like new. It’s all in how well it’s taken care of. Oil changes are every 15,000 miles, or annually, whichever is first. For me it’s annually. Oil is about $9 a quart, 7 quarts, plus filter cartridge. There is only one kind of oil it can take. Castrol TWS motorsport 10W-60.
Rear tires are every 15000 miles also. Fronts maybe 25000 if you’re lucky.
If it were me, I’d go for the 2004. Not a convertible, and not SMG are my reasons. Mileage is not a consideration unless it’s really high. Do not drive in snow. You already have that covered. Good. I’m sure the car would do just fine if it sat higher, and didn’t have 40 series tires on it. I put wider tires on mine, so they’re 35s in the back now, even worse.
SMG is great for a track, but regular driving I prefer the manual. Not sure what shift by wire means, unless he was referring to the SMG, because the manual stick goes straight into the gearbox, no wires, no linkage really other than the stick.
Don’t worry about repair costs, mine has cost very little, if at all. Inspection 2 is every 30000 miles which means all three are about due, at a cost of ~ $1500. Only #3 might be free because of the maintenance warranty. Mine has had two of them already, both covered by the maintenance warranty, which is now expired. Oh and gas mileage, officially it was listed as 16/24. I have never seen 16, and get more than 24 on every fill up. I average 25 all the time, don’t know how high it would be highway only, I’m thinking over 30, as I’ve gotten 28-29 on long highway trips myself, but I wasn’t going 55 which is how the EPA tests I think. 25 is really good for 333 HP in my opinion. I don’t drive with a light foot either.

Mine is for sale, $26000 if you’re near Denver, with lots of later model retrofits like Sirius, MP3, LEDs, front strut brace, etc. It’s a wonderful car and I’m having a hard time deciding to sell it. I love BMW 6 cylinders, but I also test drove a new one and love it too. So if someone says they’ll buy it, I guess I’ll let it go.

edit:
Mr. Fred, I don’t know why you are calling me out on my answers, but allow me to explain so that the original question asker isn’t confused by your remarks. Not trying to continue a “pissing match”, but I feel since I am right, I must explain. I am providing examples of what I have seen and what I do to my E46 M3, to provide information related to the question.

As I said, I OWN an E46 M3, I drove it off the lot with 3 miles on it. I know what BMW insists is the right oil, and it is not 15W-50, I have the service bulletins, and the sticker under the hood specifying use only the oil I stated. You can go to Walmart if you like. Inspection 2 is more than a simple fluid check. It includes a valve adjustment, which is why it is so expensive. As I stated, I have not paid for one yet, but I know what the dealer would have charged. I changed my tire widths because I was doing track days. See my avatar? That’s me. That has nothing to do with anything though, I was simply stating that it is no good in the snow, even worse with wider tires. And there is no wire or cable for the transmission, it’s not a transaxle. I’ve been under the car and changed the oil on the transmission with- well I’ll just say it wasn’t from Walmart. I would think that an owner of an E46 M3 can speak the truth about what oil to use and what maintenance costs better than an E36 owner. I wouldn’t tell an E92 owner that they don’t know what they are talking about after owning if for 6 years. When I turn my key on, the service indicator says 15525 miles to next oil change after I just did it. Explain that. It counts down mile for mile unless the engine is cold or being driven hard, at which point it counts down faster. BMW wants it in for an oil change every year if you don’t get to the 15000 miles. I’ve had this car for 6 years, I think I know how to change the oil and what the service guys at the dealer have told me. And since I own this car and fill it up on a regular basis (with premium) I know what kind of mileage it gets, you are guessing.

Q: What number of shares must be used to compute basic earnings per share?
On January 1, 2010, Edward Corporation had 9,000 shares of $7 par value common stock and 10,000 shares of 6%, $100 par value convertible preferred stock outstanding. The preferred shares carried a 4 for 1 conversion privilege. On October 1, 2010, all of the preferred shares were converted to common. What number of shares must Edward use in computing basic earnings per share at December 31, 2010?

A. 19,000.
B. 21,000.
C. 22,500.
D. 9,000.

A: Answer:

A. 19,000

9000 plus 10000 * 4 * 3 / 12

Q: is asking for a car too much?
See i’m almost 17. i can’t afford a car i personally don’t have the money, my parents do. I understand you may say get a job or grow up and when you have a career you’ll buy a car. But honestly my birthday is coming up soon and is it really too much to ask if i ask my dad to buy me a used or new 2008-2010 lamborghini murcielago convertible? is it really that much to ask? i mean it’s only ONE car, i don’t ask for much. if your kid asked for that one little small thing would you consider it at least and think about it and possibly buy it for them?
fine maybe a lamborghini murcielago convertible is too much. How about a Bentley GT?

A: Yea, its also a a $100,000 + car keep dreaming troll…

Q: convertible bonds?
Jan1,06 Gless textiles issued $ 12mill of 9%, 10 yr convertible bonds at 101. bonds pay int. on June & Dec 31. Each $1,000 bond is convertible into 40 shares of Gless $ 1 par common stock. Century S. purchased 10% of the issue as an investment.
1. prepare JE for the issuance of the bonds by Gless and investment by Century.
2. prepare JE for June 30, 2010 interest pmt. by Gless and Century assuming they use straight line method.
3. july 1, 2011 Gless common stock had a market value of $33 per share. Century converted the bonds it held. Prepare Je by both Gless and Century for the conversion of bonds (book value method)

A: Do a search on Yahoo! for “accounting transaction for convertible bond issuance.: You will see a link referencing a PowerPoint slide deck from Wiley which explains the accounting process for convertibles etc. good luck!

Q: What are the Chances of a Stock Market Crash in 2010?
The Boomers are a demographic bulge of people whose movement through time has affected many parts of USA in many ways. At present a lot of them are fairly heavily invested in portfolios of mutual funds.

But they are all going to reach “retirement age” at about the same time. Once a person retires they no longer have earned income coming in from a “job”. Once they start taking their social security, it costs a lot to go back to “work” at a “paying job”. They lose their ability to make up any losses that they may experience in the equities markets. Whatever losses they have to take there have a permanent and non-reversible impact on their quality of life going forward, from age 65.

Accordingly their risk tolerance goes way down. In fact, it may go down far enough that they no longer really want to take any risk at all. They want their golden years to be 100% predictable, not dicey and not on a roller coaster with equities markets.

They might feel more comfortable in a bond portfolio, with plenty of diversitification, including governments T-Bills, TIPS, foreign bonds, high grade corporate bonds, warrents, and convertible debentures, and various kinds of short term commercial paper.

If this tipping point comes, it could happen cataclysmic style, in say, a single week, or even a single trading day. It’s like a herd of buffalo that just gets spooked. They all start running for the exit door at the same moment because there’s a big price to be paid for being late to exit a cataclysmic dropping market.

If this seems like an incredible statement to you, take a look at the history of 1929 and the stock market crash. The crash fed on itself. It happened because it was happening. The trend is your friend, until it’s not, and then you better pay yourself first by liquidating and taking your cash off the table.

Now the probability of such a scenario in the year 2010 is what I’m interested in. That’s my question.

You could answer using regular adjectives like “slightly probable” or “very probable” or “almost impossible” or “extremely likely”.

Or, if you are a mathematician, like me, you could give me a number between 0 and 1 like:

P = .25 or P = .55, or P = .95, or P = .05

Another way of examining this question has to do with the marginal propensity of the generations after the Boomer Generation to step in and snap up the shares as the boomers unload them and cash out. If you think there’s lots and lots of propensity like that, then a massive sell off would be accompanied second by second by a massive buy up, so all the market would reveal would be high volume — maybe a week or two of those days.

On the other hand if the marginal propensity of the Teeny Boppers, the Gen Xers and the Gen Yers and the Millenials to buy shares in equities is low, then in a cataclysmic sell-off, it would be all sellers and very few buyers, sort of like 1929.

The discipline of Market Psychology is becoming increasingly acceptable partly due to Soros, and his newest book about Reflexivity. The market may not have any real anchor in “fair market value”. It may not have a tendancy to “return to equilibrium” as 1000 Economics books loudly bray every year, and have for the past 50 years. Markets may move in non-repeating ways that’s more like history than it is like cyclical wave functions.

Anyhow, although I’m grateful for any civil remarks you care to offer, very grateful actually, I’m not looking for a treatise so much as a number and maybe a few sentences to just tell me why you think that number is right. Thank you so much, Dolphin314etc

A: your assumptions would lead one to presume such an event, but recall that there are plenty of wise and opportunist boomers who have factored the possibility into their plans already.

there is a bit of a problem defining ‘crash’…is that a single day 30% loss, or is it a truncated and long term failure to match historical gains or is it a failure to maintain adequate returns to match inflation or …?

we still have not returned to the high point reached in 1999/2000, and in addition there has been further migration of public company dividend policy away from dividends and toward growth.

go back far enough, and you may find that before the institution of 401k/403c type retirement accounts the market was for the ‘rich’. it thus had a distinctly different market character.

since then, with untold billions flowing into the market from these defined contribution plans, companies have a persistent customer in the form of retirement funds wherein they can liquidate their securities/stock. so, now, it is not the individual investor that drives the market, but instead electonic or programmed trading and the managers of investment funds.

though we presume that there are rational actors, factually, we have a construct that is rules based, and programmed to reflect models of scenarios. these are not rational actors in black swan events, since they lack introspection to give them pause. indeed, until some manager intervenes, there may be plenty of instability that may appear to be a ‘crash’, but it is only the execution of a computer model, preserving capital or reducing losses for the investors positioned within the fund.

as far as ‘reach retiremnet at the same time’, I thought that the boomers were born between 1947 and 1960. That 13 year span is far from ‘the same time.

I hope I gave some perspective.

Q: can i do this or no or do i have to make it up?
i am writing a book. there is a very nice car and i want it to be in my book do i make the name up or can i use the real one it wont be out till its a 2010 chevrolet camaro convertible.can i or can i not?

A: You are allowed to just use the brand name. You’re not allowed to denounce it.
If you write “He drove a Chevrolet Camaro, which is a crappy car nobody should buy” they’ll likely sue you if you publish. If you write something nice or neutral, they won’t.

Besides, if you get as far as to publish, there will be a copyeditor reading through all of it and if they find any legal issues, they will make sure to check on them and tell you if you have to change something. They wouldn’t take the risk of getting sued; so IF you are as lucky as to get a publisher, don’t worry.

Q: Which Car Should I Get? (Please Help!)?
First of all, I am going to get my first car soon, and I have worked hard and saved up a lot of money in order to get a car. I am almost certainly getting a used car, and because it’s used, I have so many possibilities! I really need help. The cars that I am considering are:

Ford Mustang: I want a GT, and not a convertible. I love from the year 2006 to a new 2010;
Price Range: $18,000 – $33,000

Cadillac Escalade: Yes, I know. They are way too much money! But not a used 2004!
Price Range: $18,000 – $22,000

BMW 328i or 525i: They are a little boring, but a black 2008 328i or a black 2007 525i are nice!
Price Range: $21,000 – $24,000

Jeep Wrangler: Probably what most of you will say is best, a 2009 to 2006 black Jeep Wrangler:
Price Range: $22,000 – $25,000

I know these are very high prices for a first car, but I really do love cars, and I want my first car to be something I remember, and most likely keep for a long time. So, I am mostly leaning towards a Ford Mustang. I would love an Escalade, but I think it is just too much car. If I get the mustang, I will be able to afford it new.

If you guys have any input on these cars, or suggestions about other cars, PLEASE tell me! I will choose a best answer! Thanks a lot!
To Raizor and Nick, thanks a lot for the answers! I will narrow my choices to the Mustang and the BMW 328i now =)
Oh right! And the camero =) Can’t forget that. I guess I didn’t narrow it done so much.

A: i have driven each one of these car, since most of my friends have them, (i am 18). i am an american muscle fanatic, however i must say that the bmw 328i out classes all. its luxurious, powerful, comfortable and a head turner. i never expected it to be as good as it truely is. going around corners at high speeds is an experience to remember (total control) and NONE of the others give you the feeling of control a bimmer does. i would then say the mustang, for power, and looks, the interior is bland but racing from light to light in one is amazing, especially in the v8 gt. however going around corners is terrible, there is no control and if you live in an area with a lot of snow DO NOT buy it. rear-wheel drive and snow dont mix. then i would say the jeep. they are fun especially when driven on a beach haha. handeling is eh speed is ehh, but the last and the modle where the top comes off is a neat iconic feature, which i personally enjoy. and personally i think the escalade epecially the early ones are crap (This is the only one i have never driven). they are too big, eat gas and where as they may be comfortable, they arnt practicle for everyday use. i hope this helps you

Q: What Are The Cons Of Getting A Use Car?
I’m going to turn 16 in January 2010, and I want a BMW 335i Convertible. My mom says if I have A’s & B’s, then I can have a new car, but if not, then a use one. Even if I do get the grades, my mom never follows her words, so I’m probablly going to get a use one. What are the cons of getting a use car?

Also, my friend told me that, his friend bought a use car, but it’s practically new, but the previous owner bought it as a new car, but then basically drove all across the U.S. on a road trip, and then sell it. He said something about the mile thing, and why is that bad?

Thanks! =]

A: The difference between new and used can stretch wide. A new car is your best choice if money is not an issue. Although getting a used car that has been certified by a reputable dealer can save you ( your mom ) thousands of dollars and still ride and look new. Most times there are only subtle changes in style from one year to the next. Trust me that new car will be a used car real soon.

Q: One Laptop per Child: Sounds cool… Can you tell me what it can do? ?
-> What the Program is: <-
http://laptop.org/en/index.shtml
Mission Statement: To create educational opportunities for the world’s poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected laptop with content and software designed for collaborative, joyful, self-empowered learning. When children have access to this type of tool they get engaged in their own education. They learn, share, create, and collaborate. They become connected to each other, to the world and to a brighter future.

->      My Question:      <-
Hi! I love the idea of this organization and I would LOVE to spend $200.00 and both get a laptop and give a laptop to someone in the 2nd and 3rd world but I’m wondering if it would be a computer that I could use or if I should give it to someone I know for x-mas.

I’m VERY confused about what the specs are for this system and was wondering if you could help me figure our if the laptop could, say, run QuickBooks and Microsoft Word or if it is just a “Look Stuff Up” sort of “Toy” as apposed to something that I could work with.

I’m NOT complaining… I’m just trying to figure out what it is capable of BEFORE I send the money because I want to know if it would be for ME or if I would give it to a friend or a friend’s child.

If I can’t use the one they will send me, I will donate $100.00 to them just because I am so thrilled with their goals. (And since the new version comes out in 2010, I will donate NOW and buy then perhaps…)

I saw about this organization back a year or two ago on 60 min’s… So I’m happy to see that they are still going strong!!

Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

Q: i need some help on buying used cars refunds?
Okay so here’s the story

less than a month ago i bought a 1998 Mitsubishi Spyder Eclipse convertible for 4,990 with 120,000miles on it i checked the engine, and it needed a new timing belt, timing belt cover and a new oxygen sensor, they agreed to get me those items.
i paid him 1,500 down and payments of $200
with-in 1 day of owning the car i found out my brakes are BAD they are metal to metal! so i tell the dealer this was jacked up of them… to sell me a car with bad brakes so after countless phone calls and arguing they offer to fix my brakes for FREE i was very glad

so 1 week after the new brakes I’m driving 30 min out of town and i’m exiting off the freeway and my car completely stops. they told me they changed the timing belt with the brakes, and i think it was the timing belt and it fucked over? but then later on they tell me my BLOCK went out… i not sure what that is but they made it sound very important over the phone…
okay so they tried getting me into an another car so i tried new cars and everything but! i told them i just want a refund and out of this hard ache!
my sales dealer person, says the owner said “I never refunded anyone or ever will.” theseswhere his own WORDS i was so mad that i walked out without no cars or anything so I’m going to take him to court and i just needed to know is there anyway i can get my refund? i really want to get into a nicer and rreliabledealership

thanks please answer!

-Eli
Okay i live in Arizona… these guys go and buy cars at the auction, and we only signed a contact about payments i think this will help

A: Only if you get a lawyer and tell them your going to take them to court .

Q: How to convince parents to get me the car i want?
Ok, so my dad has been working on cars his whole life. He mostly deals with cosmetic aspects of the car but occasionally deals with some stuff under the hood, so he thinks whatever he says about a car is right. I turn 16 soon and we are starting to look for my first car. He keeps telling me he can get me a used civic for like $3000 to $4000. But I think I am entitled pick out the car as long as I am considering my price range and how reasonable it is. I have been doing research on this for over 4 years and im not about to let it all go to waste. What I really want is a nice used 2000 BMW 3 series convertible. About every other week i come across a nice one for sale for about $5000 with about 100000 miles and no issues. He thinks BMW means rich people. He doesn’t even consider it for 10 seconds, and when i tell him the facts like im in a debate he just ignores me. I mean with a luxury car you get luxury safety. Even though it is a convertible it is a very safe car to drive and for the price it is practically a steal.

So i need someone to help me with ideas to convince them to get me it. i already tried the debate approach and offering to pay half. thanks for the help

A: Your dad wanting to buy you a Honda is a good sign that he hates you.

Those things sound like GIANT FART CANNONS if you try to race or modify them in ANY way. Embarrassing to say the least.

Explain to dad that driving a FART CANNON means a lonely life without women or friends and that the BMW doesn’t have the FART CANNON sound and the ladies LOVE IT…..

Q: Car Advice?
I found a 1968 Chevy Corvair Convertible for sale the other day, and it is selling for $3,000. The body is in decent shape, it runs ok, and the top and interior could use a little tlc. Is this car worth $3,000 or should I be kinda suspicious like I am to what else is wrong with it?

A: BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT !!!!! ignore Ralph Nader ! the ‘68 had a double joint rear axle and cornered well , watch your tire pressure, get radials, and technology has made the fan belt last a lot longer ( still carry a spare ) yes do beware of rust but dare to be different , eBay has parts and contacts for clubs / parts I’m jealous

I’m looking for a black 1963 Mercury Comet convertible in good condition. If it’s not black, I’ll still be interested in it.

A: You need to try Hemming or one of the collector car outlet’s like Barrett-Jackson. You might also try casting about the Internet and trying to locate a club which can give you a world of information on those things. I just sold my 1969 Dart Swinger 340 resto car because of my health for 23k, you could bolt on a set of slicks and take it straight to the track or drive it in the street and I drove it in college..Anyway that’s me I love anything to do with cars so best of luck!!!!

Q: Where can I find a cheap 1940s mercury 4 door convertible for sale?

A: e-bay. you can find anything there

Q: how rare is it to find a 1970 mercury montego convertible for sale?
whats it worth

A: Call me stupid but I do not recall a 1970 Montego convertible only the fastback, sedan, 2dr, 4dr and station wagon. They had them in 1969 but not the 1970, 71 body style.

Q: I am 16 and just saw a 1998 mustang convertible for sale on the side of the road and was wondering…?
The car had 98,000 miles on it and I know that’s not too great plus it was 4,900 $ I wouldn’t buy that car just because of how many miles it has on it.
Q: Which is the hottest convertible sports car for sale?

A: I am no car expert but this is what I found out from the net.

Toyota Camry Solara is one of the hottest convertible sports car for sale. It is 190 inches to 191.5 inches in length, 71.1 inches in width, and 55.1 inches to 55.5 inches in height with a wheelbase of 105.1 inches. Its fuel capacity is 18.5 galloons. It is manufactured from 1999 to 2003 and was assembled in Cambridge and in Ontario, Canada. It has SXV-20 (I4) or CV-20 (V6) platform. Its engine could be 2.2 L 5S-FE I4 or 3.0 L 1MZ-FE V6. It has two modes of transmissions which are 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual.

Joining the list of the convertible sports car for sale is the Cadillac Fleetwood which has both sedan and coupe or convertible versions which differ in body type. The sedan is a 4–door while the convertible is a 2-door.

Another coupe in the convertible sports car for sale list is Saab 9-3 (pronounced “nine three”), which is badged as 93. It has both hatchback and coupe or convertible versions which differ in body type. The convertible is a 2-door while the hatchback may be a 3-door or a 5-door.

A: This is not a free car sale web site. Ask questions-get answers.

P.S. not enough info on condition etc to hazard a guess about value.

How’s the: body, paint, interior, engine, brakes, tires,……….

Q: I am looking forused Volkswagon Convertibles for sale. Individual or specialty dealer?

A: Well since you don`t mention where you are located? it is difficult to give you a good local resource however, Try the biggest car market available by going to the auto trader.com.
You can look in specific areas( states / counties etc>).
My presonal reccomendation is to try the Los Angles/ Southern California areas as there you will find the best prices, best condition of cars and largest selection for what you seek… good luck. and no I dont want to sell my 1956 bug lol, But there are many bugs for sale here~

I really like this kind of car and would like to know how many miles I should be looking for on a used car like this. Prices would also be helpful (for the car and insurance)
Thanks!
PS. please don’t give me answers referring to “new cars” if I were to get any car it could be used

Q: how much would it cost to turn a volkswagon golf into a covertible by a mechanic?
i really really want a volkswagon golf convertible for my first car but there is not one golf convertible for sale where i live, clearly i’m not looking hard enough but i would like to know if it would be easier just buying a regular golf and turning it into a convertible and how much would it cost.
please and thank you!

A: It can’t really be done. The roof adds a lot of structural stiffness to a car, so when they make a convertible the whole body is beefed up.

Back in the early 1980s, Lee Iaccoca, the president of Chrysler, wanted to re-introduce convertibles to the US. (Our car companies hadn’t been making convertibles for a while). He asked some of his engineers if they could convert one of their cars to a convertible, and they told him it was impossible. He got angry. He wanted to drive around in a convertible and see peoples’ reactions. So they ended up cutting the roof off a car, but they also had to weld the doors closed and weld supports into them. So Iaccoca had to climb over the top to get in, but then he could drive it like a convertible, except of course he couldn’t put the top up. They did end up re-introducing convertibles, though. 8^)

Q: 1972 Volkswagen for sale?
We were at the Pasco bug jam yesterday. They set a new world record for stuffing 16 people in an old style VW beetle. However we saw out in the parking lot a 1972 VW beetle convertible for sale.It had a new motor, clutch.top boot, tires and stereo. No visible rust or paint fade. They were asking $3500.00. Is this a reasonable price?

A: Only if they have ALL the paper work, like all the work orders. And if they say a friend did it well then you should have it checked over by a shop. They will tell you whats up.
Remember that if it seems to good to be true, then it is.
$3500 for a convertible is low, get it checked.
