Q: I want to buy a minivan used any suggestions?
I would like to buy a used MiniVan but don’t no the first thing about what to look for in purchasing one,I’ve bought many cars & trucks but 0 MiniVans.Any suggestions would be very helpful,like what size motor,front wheel or all wheel drive,what to look for as far as probs.Thankyou in Advance for your Help.

A: I would suggest getting a 2004 Honda Odyssey EX-L. The 2004’s are just coming off lease, and were the last year before a big redesign happened. So the prices on the 2004 are much lower than the 05’s, and the quality on them is just as good, if not better (since they had been producing that line for a good while). Problems to look for are minimal and are mostly the same as any other car and truck. I’d just be sure to open both side doors and make sure that the motors that open them sound like they are in good shape.

Q: I am buying a used Minivan or SUV- what are some common problems to look for?
I am buying a minivan or SUV this weekend used with a price tag in the 2-3K range. I am looking at Dodge Caravans or Ford Explorers with over 100k miles. What are some common problems associated with these vehicles at this type of mileage? Also, what is the best type of used minivan I can buy that would be dependable in this price range?

A: BOTH OF THESE VEHICLES ARE A VERY BAD CHOICE AND BOTH OF THEM WILL LEAVE YOU ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUT YOU IN THE POOR HOUSE VERY QUICK.

Q: What is a good used minivan? Looking to spend about $4000.?
I am wondering what is a good used minivan. I know the toyotas and nissans , but I am afraid they are out of my price range. So my next question is what is the best domestic brand? I guess the lesser of two evils. Thank You for your help. Any mechanic opinions would be much appreciated.

A: its going to be hard to find a van with less than 100k miles on it, that is in good shape at that price. you will just have to look around and find ones on your price field and then do research on that vehicle.

Q: How do I check the transmission for problems when I test drive a used minivan?
I know a lot of minivans have transmission problems, so how do I detect if the van might have some issues with its tranny?

A: Check the transmission fluid level look at the stick most now are a bit magnetic do you see any shavings on it. Is the fluid an odd color or does it smell burnt. If that looks ok then get in crank it up. Try shifting from park to reverse and forward a few times while sitting still. Does it delay or shift hard, is it loud when it shift. If it sounds good then drive it how does it shift now don’t just go down the road and back drive it so it gets warm. Try under heavy acceleration. If its good then buy it. If you are still worried have the transmission inspected.

Q: What endorsments do I need to drive a minivan used to transport children to and from school?
I want to obtain a license to drive the minivan at a a schoolbus transportation company but Im not sure what endorsments I need I know one of them is a passenger endorsment and I know you need a cdl to drive the minivan but no clue what I need for the minivan?????

A: A driver’s license – but I guess that would depend on what state you are in.

Q: Does Anyone know where to get a used minivan for under 4000 in Spokane, WA?
Looking for a ford windstar, kia sedona, or other 7 passenger vehicle for under 4000. Looking for the best possible car for the money, I have three children that i transport to and from spokane alot (about an hours drive) so i need something reliable. A: I would look for a very old Toyota Previa. It will be reliable, but not necessarily safe. (It got a Poor rating from the IIHS)

Also you could shop around for some older DCX vans or perhaps a Ford Windstar, but neither will be as reliable as the Previa.

I don’t know how much 98 Siennas used are running for nowadays, but I doubt it’ll be under $4,000.

You could also look for a used Ford Taurus station wagon with the optional 3rd row, or for a Volvo V70 or Volvo Cross Country.

A: Toyota will be the best for a used resale. Their cars are built to last 20 years not ten.

You can go onto the AAA website if you are cardholder, they have a section that list new and used cars for sell at a discount becuase you are a AAA member.

The price of the van is $7000. By the time everything is added up its over $11 000 on the bill of sale. (includes an $1100 extended warranty)
We have bad credit but need a vehicle badly. Does our bad credit increase this fee?

A: Secondary banks require a 1000-3000 fee for credit challenged. dealer makes nothing off of this.

A: If you are talking about the mileage (reset switch) you need knew cable about 30, putting in about 65. If you lost power, you have something blown in the engine. Not Good, can be blown head gasket, warn or broke rings, carb injector problem any of those will be in the several hundred dollar range.

What makes are good and what makes should you avoid. I’m looking for something in the 2002 – 2004 range. Any suggestions?

A: Depending on how much you are trying to spend the best bet is to find a 03 KIA Sedona. The resale value is not that high so you can find a good one with around 75,000 miles for dirt cheap. Good safety rating and might have roadside assist remaining on the van.
