Q: Buy a Pontiac Solstice, or wait for the 2010 Camaro?
I’m really digging the Pontiac Solstice, and like the small size; It fits well with my garage which is not that huge, and has a look that is definitely unique (The BMW Z4 is the only other car which comes to mind, in terms of front-end design for a covertible).

On the other hand. I’m in love with the 2010 Camaro; Bad News – Production is backed up 14k cars going forward; I could get one on the open market, but would pay above retail. And I just cannot bring myself to do that – One year is not worth several thousand dollars more.

I really don’t want to wait trading in my PT Cruiser for another year, so I’m inclined go with the Pontiac.

Thoughts?
NOTE: I’d jump for the Saturn as I do dig it over the Solstice, but I have my concerns about buying a model that did not sell well and the entire brand is promised to be phased out by 2010.

A: For the same price as the Camaro, you could find the Solstice GXP, which has a 265HP Turbocharged 4 cylinder engine, which makes it much faster than the 306HP V6 Camaro, but still slower than the 426HP V8 SS.

The Solstice does handle much better and is more fun to drive than even the Camaro SS, but I have heard of lots of problems with the Solstice’s convertible top breaking and other problems. The Solstice is the same car as the Saturn Sky, but the Saturn is built better and has little or no problems with the top.

If you want comfort and practicality, wait for the Camaro.
If you are into going to a race track or turning fast, go with the Solstice.

Q: Is it a bad idea for me to buy a Pontiac Car, even though it is going out of business in 2010?
I really want a pontiac solstice, so can someone please help me???

A: so Pontiac will be gone. But GM dealers will still be required to honor the warranty and GM will still make parts for the car. There is nothing to worry about.

Q: If you could make any vehicle into a hybrid, with intentions of purchasing it, what would it be?
Of cars I could actually afford I’d go with a Mazda Miata (I already have one but would’ve loved it if it had a hybrid counterpart), Pontiac Solstice, or Saturn Skyy. They’re already pretty good on gas and have tiny engines.. I’d only fill up once a month! Lol..

Car I couldn’t afford.. BMW Z4 or Z9 when it comes out. But by the time the Z9 comes out (2010?) I should be able to ::crosses fingers::

A: Also do something sexy, to gain more media attention.

Corvette Hybrid? – Has a nice ring to it.
0-60 in 4 seconds, yet 48 mpg?

Corvettes have a potential to do better than the Prius, or other hybrids, because the body is already lightweight fiberglass, and the aerodynamics are better than other cars.

Plus people already spend a lot of money on these cars, so the extra cost of making the hybrid components can be “hidden” a little better, to where potential buyers don’t even notice.

What do you think?

Of course we need a bunch of cheaper hybrids too. I like your idea of the Solstice and Sky. They’re like GM’s baby Corvettes!

OMG I can barely wait!

Q: how much will these cars cost in 2-5 years (cars in details)?

A: One thing: How much are YOU willing to pay? Cause quite frankly even with the major depreciation on the American vehicles you’re going to have a hard time affording them. From memory http://www.kbb.com has a depreciation evaluator for most new cars. Some things to clear up though:

Fisker Karma is a prototype. It’s also not likely available in America except via import which is going to cost you more than moving to Europe and buying one there.

The Nissan GT-R is going to cost you heaps in consumables, not to mention the 20 grand to fix the transmission which WILL, not IF, WILL rip itself apart.

The Cadillac Converj and Chevy Volt are ALSO prototypes.

OK about the rest of the cars:

The 2003 Audi TT would be relatively cheap now. It was replaced last year by an updated and facelifted model. This also goes for the BMW Z4, Porsche Boxster, Dodge Viper, Cadillac XLR, Shelby Mustang and the Dodge Charger.

Given the poor resale value of American vehicles (and especially since GM is 100 billion dollars in debt, and that is not an exaggeration), the Solstice and its close, slightly-different-looking counterpart the Saturn Sky would be quite cheap as well.

http://www.kbb.com would have all the info necessary for depreciation on new vehicles so look at that.

This is a generic evaluation I’ve done on the older vehicles using KBB, with a mileage of 25,000 and all the standard features equipped. This is also based on the standard trim:

2004 Dodge Charger: N/A (incorrect year I’m assuming, it wasn’t on the database)
No 2005 Shelby Mustang either. A 2005 Mustang would start at $13,290.
Pontiac Solstice: $18,340
Chevrolet Corvette: $32,790
Lotus Elise: N/A (not sold in America)
Lotus Exige: N/A (ALSO not sold in America)
Audi TT: $15,155
Cadillac XLR: $33,235
Chrysler Crossfire: $14,375
Dodge Viper: $48,100
Mazda RX-8: $14,535
BMW Z4: $24,065
Porsche Boxster: $21,005

Q: Advice on choosing a sports car around 30K or under?
OK, I’ve narrowed my choose down to around 6 cars. I’m looking for a sports car that I can get at or around 30K or under. Definitely looking for something visually appealing and atleast some decent speed. What do you guys think? What would be your top 3 from this list? *All of the cars below are manuals and hard top coupes

If I go used
2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP Hard top Coupe (10,955 miles) asking 32,964
2007 BMW Z4 3.0si Hard top Coupe (32,451 miles) asking $30,900
2007 Mercedes SLK350 Hard top Coupe (3,592 miles) asking $33,900
2008 Audi TT 3.2L Coupe (44,532 miles) asking $29,970
Or If I go new
2010 Nissan 370z w/ Sports Package starting from $33,410 MSRP
2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T Track starting from $26,750 MSRP

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.deep-ice.com
