Q: Pontiac Solstice?
Ok I’ve been planning on getting a 2007 Pontiac Solstice.

The only thing is I can only afford the normal 07 not the GXP Version….

So I was wondering *perferablly people who know alot or have one* If it’s not worth getting it if it’s not A GXP???
( Also some info on them maybe & key differnces would be nice)

Also I’d just have it for driving around places, not racing and all that so The Extra HP in the gxp really isnt a big deal to me.

A: The price difference between the Solstice and the GXP is only about $2K, apples to apples. Interestingly, the GXP actually gets better fuel mileage.

Because it is rarer, the GXP will be worth more down the road and is therefore the better buy. But if you can only afford the Solstice, it is still the #1 rated car as far as resale value in its class. It doesn’t have a ton of power, but it is still respectable and more power than any of it’s competitors. It also has a bit more weight, so if you’re planning on racing a Miata you’d better be the superior driver.

There are some visual differences on the GXP, but unless you’re in tune to them you may never notice. Over all, I think the Solstice is a cool car and wouldn’t mind having one myself. But with all my GTOs, there’s no room in the garage…

Edit: To PJ Mick below: Solstice is beating the crap out of Mazda at autocross events all over the country, enough that Mazda owners have been trying to get them out of their class. Mazda MX5 trunk volume is 5.3 cubic feet, Solstice is 5.4. Solstice has a better warranty than Mazda and better reliability ratings, and Skye is the same car as the Solstice. Therefore all of your recommendations are off base.

A: What!?! Ugly? What planet are you on? The Solstice is the hottest car on the planet right now! And Car and Driver said it beats the BMW Z4 and Nissan Z. I’m just wishing I can drive one in the next few years… (and I’m a dealer!)

A: Your Pontiac will never go that fast. 300km/h is 186 mph.
Your car has no electronic limiter to begin with. It’s limited by power. The top speed now is 140mph. Your car has, what, 260 HP? You will need to double the horsepower, change the wheels and tires, upgrade the brakes, possible aerodynamic improvements.. etc. With the money you would have spent making your car go that fast, you could have bought a car that will go that fast from the factory.

If I want a 2008 Pontiac Solstice Convertible fully loaded which would come to about $24,000 and I have over 720 credit and put $2,500 down and I want to lease it for 3 years %0 APR. A: Go to leaseguide.com and use their lease caclulator.
The lease number is determined by a few things.
1. The sticker price.
2. Your negotiated sales price.
3. The money factor (the interest rate used in leasing) and
4. the residaul for the car at the end of the lease.
Also, it will change based on terms (122436 months)
Never put money down on al ease and never lease beyond the warranty!

Okay, since GM filed for bankruptcy and it stated it’s phasing out it’s Pontiac brand. My question is how much would I be able to purchase a new Pontiace Solstice? Since the company would no longer exist, and it would try to sell the rest of its vehicles.

A: im not sure but you should probably get it now before all of the dealerships are gone. also you might want to try looking at the saturn sky. there very similar but in my opinion the saturn sky is alot nicer and the saturn brand is going to be bought so youll probably still get the warrenty for your car if something happens

A: There are aftermarket companies out there who offer the hard top, GM does not. But they are talking about a sport coupe model for 2009…

A: there the same car. same engine/chassis. both are roughly the same weight. both have 260hp 260 torque. so that question i can answer for you. but i dont know the top speed, but im 99.9% sure there gonna be identical.

personaly i love pontiacs, but for this car i think the sky looks better. but theres no real difference in which one you get, there pretty much the same thing just different bodies. the saturn is a little more cash.

A: yeah you can call it a sports car it does quailify for certian motor sports events which is the definition of a sports car although it is convertible. i dont think it was in the fast and the furious movies at all

If I got a used 2006 Mustang GT Premium coupe would it be more or less money, insurance wise, then a 2007 Pontiac Solstice? In other words, which would have higher insurance?
I said the Mustang would be a coupe, not a convertible. But it would be V8. While the Solstice only comes in Convertible. I would think that the Solstice would be higher, because of it’s ’smallness’. But I am not sure. Anyone know for sure?

A: There are so many variables.. it depends on how old you are, your record, etc..
I remember when I traded in my ‘91 Escort GT for an ‘88 Mustang GT; I was 21, and I was cringing in the insurance agent’s office, bracing myself, well surprise surprise, my rates went down, not up. Because I had a clean record and the car was older. I guess they didn’t care that I was going from a 4-cylinder car to a V8.

Well before I look into Performance I have to look in my wallet.
